KP: Last of the Fall Color

KP Writes:
Sunday we went to Kansas
(9 whole miles) to do some shopping. I spotted one of the remnants of fall '09 and thought it would be a beautiful backdrop for a photo op. We were not dressed for pictures, but oh well.
As I have enjoyed seeing all the color this year I was reminded of Psalm 104 that says: "Praise the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. He wraps himself in light as with a garment;..."

As you may or may not remember from your middle school scie
nce classes, color is the byproduct of the spectrum of light, as it is reflected or absorbed, as it is received by the human eye and processed by the human brain. Visible light is made up of seven wavelengths. (ones our eyes can see) When light hits objects, some of the wavelengths are absorbed and some are reflected, depending on the materials in the object. The reflected wavelengths are what we perceive as the objects color. Light rays are bent into different sizes giving us different colors. So basically we see reflected bent light as color.

Furthermore white light contains all colors of the rainbow mixed together. It appears white to us because it absorbs no color but reflects it all color equally. In contrast black is the result of an object absorbing all color and reflecting none back. Scientists do not consider black a color because it is actually an absence of color. (?black is absence of light? Hell????)

So I think of Jesus wrapped in light and I envision an array of color all around Him. Yes I know He is clothed in a white robe. Pure white robe. In the color/light analogy, absorbing nothing, reflecting all He is back to us to receive in through our eye and process in our brain. But yet, He is all...all the colors of His creation, wrapped into white light...His white robe.

I see the magnitude of who He is by the display of spectacular fall colors in nature demonstrating to us not only what He created but what He looks like and another part of the majestic God He is, clothed in light.

Just pondering,

Kristian

I have indeed marveled at the beauty of the creation and God's variety expressed even in the different colors of the leaves (both when they are varying shades of green and then when they turn reds, oranges, yellows and even brown). But never have I thought of all those colors and the white of Jesus' robe. Thought provoking!

Love you, Moma
