KP: Hosting Powder Puff Football Team

KP Writes:

About a week ago we got a call from Lisa C.
(one of our own from RiverStone Church) who is leading the One Thing interns here at IHOP-KC. She had headed up the Powder Puff Football 'league' for the interns and they had finished their 'season' with the long awaited game, which her team unfortunately lost. However, she needed a home to have the post season celebration, awards, and food. Because the Lord has provided such a place for us, we excitedly said yes.
So, Friday afternoon 17 female OneThing interns, 2 of their female leaders, and their 2 male OneThing football coaches descended upon our home. They came bearing a fabulous spread of appetizers, entrees, football plates/napkins and sodas. I thought the 4 hours would be a celebration time of food and fellowship followed by watching the movie, Remember the Titans. (They even brought their own TV as the only one we have has about a 10 inch screen.)

Wow, this generation of radical lover's of Jesus continually blows me away. I ask, why do we expect so little of our teens and 20's when then are destined for so much more in the Lord. As is customary for these interns they are sold out in pursuing Jesus and coming up higher. They know they have been called out as intercessors and revivalists in a nation that is turning its back on the Lord and the Word of the Lord.

A good portion of the afternoon was spent in edifying the 2 coaches and fellow interns for the way that they taught, led, encouraged, edified these young women during the practices/preparation for the 'big game'. The women gave testimony of how these young men actually helped to heal childhood wounds inflicted by teachers, coaches, parents who had led them in sports during their life. Many verbal wounds of inadequacy were replaced by words of life. It helped them overcome insecurities and have assurance of acceptance and value regardless of ability. These things sound petty, but any non-athletic female can testify of the sick feeling in your stomach at participating in a team sport. Ugh!

The coaches and the 2 leaders were blown away with the transparency of the ladies and their testimony. I was blown away! I thought the powder puff football activities were just some 'dumb' recreational activity as part of their non spiritual but never unstructured time. However as these young people are faithful to pursue the Lord with their whole being in all that they do, the Lord is faithful to meet them, as evidenced by their testimonies.

Then we ate, watched the movie, and headed out to the Encountering God Service. I have the greatest job in the world.

Blessings to you,
Kristian

The sad thing this makes me realize is that the adults of the world have so greatly wounded the young people of the world (those that God has entrusted to us to love and nurture)!

But God is busily healing those wounds. And thanks to reports like these your "followers" get to share in the coaches' and interns' blessings. Thanks for sharing - even though you surely did mess up my makeup.
